Tiger Shark Galeocerdo cuvier
Distribution: A common wide-ranging coastal pelagic and warm temperate shark that has a wide tolerance for different marine habitats. Found from the surface to depths of around 140m.
Size: Large females reach over 5.5m in length.
Characteristics: The tiger shark has a large head, very short, blunt snout with cocks-comb shaped curved teeth with heavy serrations. They have a slender body behind the pectoral fins and a slender caudal fin with an acutely pointed tip. The body also has characteristic dark, vertical tiger-stripe markings that may be faded or missing in adults.
