Recreational Fishing

Marine and freshwater recreational management

Freshwater Trust Allocation

2006-07 $155,000

Saltwater Trust Allocation

2006-07 $225,000

Aim

Promote quality recreational fishing opportunities in NSW.

Background

Funds have been allocated to a range of marine and freshwater recreational management activities to enhance recreational fishing opportunities. These include providing advisory information to angling groups, consulting and corresponding with fishing clubs and other key stakeholder groups, responding to angler inquiries received through the NSW DPI website and over the phone, collating community submissions and maintaining a database of over 800 NSW based recreational fishing clubs. Recreational managers also coordinate the Recreational Fishing Trusts and the expenditure committees that oversee the Trusts to ensure transparent reporting and accountability for the Trusts.

The work of the expenditure committees is communicated to the broader community and the managers also provide a conduit for anglers views into the committees. Co-operative arrangements with applicants to maximise the benefits to recreational fisheries from trust funded programs are coordinated and the development of recreational fishing information systems and the linking of management and science to advance recreational fishing objectives is facilitated.
