Calls for nominations - Aboriginal Fishing Trust Expenditure Committee


The Aboriginal Fishing Trust Fund (AFTF) supports the enhancement, maintenance and protection of Aboriginal cultural fishing and provides fishing related economic development opportunities for Aboriginal communities in NSW.

The Aboriginal Fishing Advisory Council (AFAC) provides advice to the Minister for Agriculture and Western NSW on Aboriginal fishing matters, including funding priorities from the AFTF. The Aboriginal Fishing Trust Expenditure Committee (AFTEC) has been established to assist AFAC with assessment of applications for funds and development of expenditure recommendations.

A call for nominations is invited for up to six positions on the AFTEC.

Essential criteria includes:

  • Be an Aboriginal person.
  • Have expertise in the areas of business and exploration of economic development opportunities.

Desirable criteria includes:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the cultural significance of fishing to Aboriginal culture.
  • Sound analytical skills and demonstrated capacity to engage with complex issues.
  • Capacity to attend up to two meetings per year and undertake required preparation for meetings including having access to email.

Members are paid a sitting fee, travel and accommodation expenses and are appointed for terms of up to three years.
