NSW Commercial Lobster Fishery Management Arrangements

The Department of Primary Industries Fisheries recently sought feedback from NSW Lobster Fishery stakeholders on three proposed changes to NSW Lobster Fishery rules. The proposed changes were developed by the Lobster Industry Working Group. This working group is the main consultative body for discussion on matters regarding the Lobster Fishery Total Allowable Commercial Catch setting process and other operational and policy matters for the Lobster Fishery.

The three rules that are proposed for change are the requirement:

  1. to carry a suitable measuring device
  2. for unused tags to be returned to Secretary at the end of fishing period
  3. the holder of lobster shares may not acquire by transfer more than twice the amount of the shareholders initial quota for the fishing period.
