Fishing business buyout

Apply to transfer shares and surrender a business. Upon transfer of all shares from one fishing business to another, the fishing business will be cancelled and you will be paid $20,000*.

* If the business also holds a southern fish trawl endorsement, that endorsement must be surrendered to be paid an additional $20,000.

Some key changes commence, such as minimum shareholding requirements in some share classes.

Participate in the preview share trading market to get a better idea of how the online share trading program works, and to practice placing bids and offers (no shares or money will be exchanged in the preview share trading market) in preparation for the subsidised share trading market due to commence in early 2017.

Apply for low interest rate loan through the rural assistance authority, if needed.

Register to participate in the subsidised share trading market.

Find a fishing business with the relevant shares to buy.

See if you’re eligible to apply for a low interest loan. Loans will be available to fishers who currently lease and work a fishing business and want to be a shareholder. Eligibility criteria apply.

Apply for low interest rate loan through the rural assistance authority. Loan funds will be paid from the rural assistance authority directly to the seller of the fishing business.

Fishing Business Buyout

Apply for a $20,000 fishing business buyout. Upon surrender or transfer of all shares from your fishing business, the fishing business will be cancelled and you will be paid $20,000*.

Adjustment Subsidy Program

You are able to submit a package offer to sell your fishing business on the subsidised share trading market commencing 1 May. If the offer is successful, all shares will be transferred from your fishing business, the fishing business number cancelled and you will receive the $20,000* fishing business buyout payment in addition to the price your receive for any shares sold.

* If the business also holds a southern fish trawl endorsement, that endorsement must be surrendered to be paid an additional $20,000.

Apply for retrainng assistance. Grants of up to $10,000 are available through the rural assistance authority to assist with retraining expenses.
