Cumberland Volunteer Program
A volunteer at Cumberland State Forest in Sydney's north-west
The Cumberland Volunteer Program is an active community program aimed at volunteers who want to:
- learn forest management skills
- work outdoors
- help maintain Australia’s only metropolitan state forest.
The program is based at Cumberland State Forest in Sydney’s north-west.
Activities
Cumberland Volunteers are involved in a range of activities including:
- restoring the native vegetation within the forest using bush regeneration principles;
- plant and weed identification and weed removal techniques;
- maintenance of recreational facilities within Cumberland State Forest;
- arboretum management and maintenance, which involves maintaining existing plots which were originally established in the 1940s, plus the expansion and replanting of plots.
All equipment and supervision is provided. Volunteers should wear long trousers, long sleeves, sturdy shoes and a bring a water bottle.
As a volunteer, you will be contributing towards the objectives of Cumberland State Forest.
Induction and the Volunteer Policy
Visitors at Cumberland State Forest
All volunteers are inducted into the program at their first session and are informed of the Forests NSW Volunteer Policy and Safety Management System requirements. Morning tea is also provided.
When and where
The Cumberland Volunteer Program is held on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 9.30 am - 12.30 pm. Volunteers meet outside the Cumberland State Forest Information Centre, 95 Castle Hill Rd, West Pennant Hills NSW.
