Living near a forest and our 'good neighbour' policy
Many people are attracted to the idea of living in the bush and seek the solitude of living near nature in a forested environment. There are many benefits of living near a state forest; however, there are also some important issues which you should be aware of.

Forests NSW Good Neighbour Policy
The information below has been taken from P2010/11 Forests NSW Good Neighbour Policy (PDF, 60KB)
Forests NSW and its people commit to:
- being recognised in our communities as environmentally responsible, professional forest managers and good corporate citizens;
- developing and maintaining excellent relationships with our neighbours;
- working with and gaining the confidence and support of neighbours in managing the community’s forests;
- understanding our neighbours and their needs, and nurturing their trust and respect; and
- actively engaging with our neighbours in management of the community’s forests.
To achieve this, Forests NSW will appropriately:
- communicate and consult with our neighbours;
- seek opportunities to explain and interpret Forests NSW management practices;
- provide detailed information about proposed activities or works in progress;
- actively participate in community forums on issues relating to forests, forest management and community values;
- be responsive to neighbours' concerns and professionally conciliate any issues; and
- encourage and motivate our employees, forest user groups, interest groups, agents and licensees of Forests NSW to develop a good neighbourly ethic.
