Status

Skilled hunter.

Numbers

Estimated at up to 5 million.

Distribution

Has adapted to most habitats on the Australian continent.

Original purpose

First released to be used in "traditional fox hunting" in the 1840's.

Capabilities

Nocturnal hunters with a keen sense of smell and sound. Clever and cunning at stalking, and quick to kill. Kills any animals in plentiful supply.

Problem

Kills native fauna. Diet includes; small mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects and plants.

Control

People must report any sightings. There are poisoning, trapping and shooting programs in place, with some success.
