Australia's only metropolitan State forest, Cumberland State Forest, is located in West Pennant Hills, Sydney, only half an hour from the CBD.

Cumberland State Forest contains 40 hectares of native forest. The original privately-owned land was cleared in 1908. In 1938 its management was taken over by the then NSW Forestry Commission and was dedicated as a State forest in 1939. One third of the land was planted as an aboretum while the rest was allowed to regenerate naturally.

Uncover the mysteries of the forest and learn about sustainable forest management.

Cumberland State Forest offers a wide range of recreational activities with forest walks, picnic areas, barbecues along with a surprising diversity of wildlife.

An extensive school holiday and activities program is on offer along with a forest school education program and you can also participate in our volunteer program.

Cumberland Forest Nursery specialises in native trees and shrubs for the home gardener and rural landholder. Experienced horticultural staff will advise you on all your plant needs.

Enjoy indoor and outdoor dining at Cafe Saligna. Open for breakfast, lunch, hot and cold drinks, freshly made cakes and biscuits, six days a week. Lunch bookings suggested on Ph: (02) 9873 2955 or visit (www.cafesaligna.com.au).

For more information or to book in an activity contact our state-wide information line on 1300 655 687 or 02 9871 3377.

Visitors should also note the normal forest gate opening times are 8.30am - 5.00pm, except during daylight saving times where they are open 8.30am 6.00pm.
