Government Geoscience Information Committee meetings 2008-2009
The Geological Survey of NSW has recently completed its period as host of the Government Geoscience Information Committee (GGIC). Commonwealth, State, Northern Territory and New Zealand representatives from government geoscience agencies attend twice yearly GGIC meetings with the chair rotating each year between representatives. During NSW tenure as host, the Chair was the I & I NSW Manager - Geoscience Information, Graham Butt.
The GGIC is a sub-committee which reports to the Chief Government Geologists Committee on national geoscience information standards and data models, data access and delivery solutions. The results of the meetings allow the government geoscience agencies to benchmark their services and product delivery, and to share technological information that facilitates this work.
NSW chaired two meetings during 2008–2009, and one meeting during 2009-2010, the latter as proxy for New Zealand. The first meeting was held at Newcastle, during which GGIC members visited the Geological Survey's offices in Maitland for presentations by geoscientists on the work performed there.
