Oaklands Basin - Jerilderie Gravity survey data

Oaklands gravity map

Centred on the town of Jerilderie, the Oakland Basin - Jerilderie survey covers an area of 25 000 square kilometres extending from Darlington Point to the Victorian border. Over 2 700 gravity readings were acquired in June/July 2009 at a station spacing of 4 km x 4 km with limited infill in the basin at 2 km x 2 km spacing. The survey maps the extension into NSW of the Tabberabbera Zone, which is part of the Albury/Bega Terrane.

The new gravity data have more clearly defined highly prospective infra-basins, such as the Ovens Valley Graben, which have potential for hydrocarbons as well as potential for CO2 geostorage. The new data also better defines interpreted granites which may have potential for geothermal energy.

In regard to potential for mineral exploration, the new gravity data have improved the definition of the southern part of the regionally significant Bootheragandra Fault, which separates the Tabberabbera Zone from the Omeo Zone in NSW. The new data have also improved delineation of the fault-bounded Devonian Jindera Granite.
