New NSW mineral resource project maps

Mineral Resource Projects NSW

The strength and diversity of the minerals industry in New South Wales is highlighted on the new Mineral Resource Projects NSW map released at the Mineral Exploration and Investment Conference in Sydney in August 2009. A new version of the smaller "pocket sized" map for March 2011 is now available at 1:3 000 000 scale.

Both maps show the locations of major mines and advanced exploration projects for metallic and industrial minerals, gemstones, coal and petroleum in NSW. The maps also show current coal allocation areas.

Shown on the maps are the locations of the major coal mines of the Hunter, western and southern coalfields, the major gold and copper projects in the mid-west and heavy mineral sands in the Murray Basin. The major mineral fields at Cobar and Broken Hill are shown along with the opal fields at Lightning Ridge and White Cliffs.

Large industrial mineral deposit sites including limestone, zeolite, silica and gypsum are also shown.

Relevant major infrastructure, such as transmission lines, power stations, mineral processing plants, gas pipelines, ports and railways, are indicated on the maps. The major geological provinces in NSW are displayed as a backdrop to the maps.

The mining and exploration activity information is sourced from selected exploration and production results published in company reports available to the public. The infrastructure information is sourced from other government agencies.

This edition of the maps are available in folded and flat A0 format at 1:1.5 million scale and in A2 format at 1:3 million scale.
