Lightning Ridge Mining Board

The NSW Government manages the Lightning Ridge area principally via the Lightning Ridge Mining Board.

The Lightning Ridge Website is a NSW DPI initiative designed to provide information to miners, landholders and the general public regarding opal mining in the Lightning Ridge Mineral Claims District.

The website clearly outlines the rights and responsibilities of miners and landholders, and ensures access to information outside of office hours.

In addition, information such as access management, application forms and fees, upcoming courses and policies are also available, together with an Opal Claim System (OCS) Viewer allowing miners to view the opal field maps at any time.

Safety and environmental sustainability issues related to fossicking, opal prospecting and mineral claims in the Lightning Ridge Mineral Claims District can be found in respective pages of NSW DPI website.

For further information, please contact the Lightning Ridge Office.
