Discussion paper on maintenance of competencies

Discussion paper

for the system of training and continuing professional development
for certificate of competence holders in the NSW coal mining industry

The Coal Competence Board has released a discussion paper for public comment to assist in establishing requirements for the maintenance of competence of certificate of competence holders under clause 173 of the Coal Mine Health and Safety Regulation 2006.

The NSW Coal Competence Board advises the Minister for Mineral Resources on matters related to the competence required of people to perform functions at coal operations. Maintaining the competence of persons to work safely in the legislated specified function after they are issued with a certificate of competence is a key area that the Board is considering.

A system has been researched and developed that requires certificate holders performing specified functions to undertake training and continuing professional development activities to support them to continue working safely.
