Metalliferous Mines and Extractives Industries Competence Board
The Metalliferous Mines and Extractive Industries Competence Board has been established to improve mine safety performance by ensuring the competence of people to work safely in the New South Wales mining industry.
It advises the Minister and oversees the development of competence standards and the assessment of competencies and will develop a system for the maintenance of competence.
The Board was established in 2008 following the introduction of the Mine Health and Safety Act 2004 and the Mine Health and Safety Regulation 2007. Mr Peter Black, OAM was appointed as the inaugural Chairman of the Board in 2008.
The Board has representation from the NSW Minerals Council, Cement Concrete and Aggregates Australia, the AWU, the CFMEU, people with expertise in the development and assessment of competence in the mining industry and senior officers from Mine Safety within the NSW Department of Primary Industries.
A secretariat service is provided by staff located within Mine Safety Performance in NSW DPI.
