General mine safety legislation (applies to all NSW mines)
Occupational Health and Safety legislation
This legislation aims to protect people at work against risks to health or safety from work activities. It is administered by the Minister and the Department in relation to mines. It imposes broad general duties of care on employers and manufacturers/suppliers of plant and substances. The Occupational Health and Safety Act 2000 applies to all workplaces in NSW, including mines.
The Occupational Health and Safety Amendment (Application to Mining Workplaces and Coal Workplaces) Regulation 2008 was gazetted on 20 June 2008. This amendment regulation will broadly extend the application of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation 2001 to the mining industry from 1 September 2008.
