New safety legislation for mines
The Mine Health and Safety Act 2004 and Mine Health and Safety Regulation 2007 came into force on 1 September 2008. The legislation is intended to protect the health, safety and welfare of people working in the NSW metalliferous, extractive and opal mining industries.
The Mine Health and Safety Act 2004 and Mine Health and Safety Regulation 2007 replace the Mines Inspection Act 1901 and Mines Inspection General Rule 2000, which were repealed on 1 September 2008.
