Mine safety performance measures
The Safety Performance Measures program facilitates the collection, validation, trend analysis, interpretation and reporting of industry safety data, through:
- its own computerised information system COMET (Common Mines Environment)
- establishing links with external agencies and key industry stakeholders.
This integrated industry information is used to:
- satisfy legislative requirements,
- underpin corporate strategies, business plans and processes,
- provide information to the mining industry.
The COMET information system collects data on Mine Safety core business processes including assessments, accidents, incidents, approvals and authorisations.
The data, collected since 1999, has enabled a range of comprehensive reports, on incidents and trend analysis, to be produced, together with the capacity to undertake in depth analysis and research.
