Mining qualifications and competency

NSW DPI aims to provide a process and framework for the authorisation of equipment, competencies, procedures and management systems to satisfy legislative requirements and responsibilities.

Coal

The examination of candidates for Certificates of Competency under the Coal Mine Health and Safety Act 2002 are held by NSW DPI throughout the year.

Blasting Explosives Users Licence and Shotfirer's Certificate and Shotfirer's Permit

The Explosives Act 2003 and Explosives Regulations 2005 came into effect on 1 September 2005 with the repeal of theDangerous Goods Act 1975. The Act introduced a new licensing system administered by WorkCover NSW which requires licences to be held by importers, manufacturers, transporters, suppliers and users of explosives. Recognition procedures

Mutual recognition is available for a number of qualifications and competencies within Australia and New Zealand.

Recognition is also available for overseas engineering qualifications.
