Onshore petroleum exploration reporting guidelines
Guidelines for digital data submission and report structure for reporting onshore petroleum exploration in New South Wales
November 2009
As a result of the large amount of digital data being generated by exploration companies, and an increasing expectation that data be made available in digital form, the Department has created the guidelines for the digital submission of onshore petroleum exploration data. The guidelines conform to a set of national standards for exploration reporting agreed to by state and federal geological agencies.
The Petroleum (Onshore) Act 1991, Petroleum (Onshore) Regulation 2007, Petroleum (Onshore) Amendment Regulation 2009 and the conditions of title for Petroleum Exploration Licences (PELs) in New South Wales set out the requirements for reporting on exploration within Petroleum Exploration Licences, Petroleum Assessment Leases and Petroleum Special Prospecting Authorities. The Department has created the guidelines for reporting on onshore petroleum exploration in New South Wales to clarify what exploration data should be reported, and in what media and form.
