New South Wales Agricultural Genomics Centre

The New South Wales Agricultural Genomics Centre aims to harness the new technologies of 'genomics' (study of the total genetic material of an individual species) and 'proteomics' (the study of the interrelationship between proteins) to enhance NSW agribusiness.

The New South Wales Agricultural Genomics Centre provides a platform for a multidisciplinary scientific approach to solve agricultural problems in NSW. The framework of molecular technologies will provide breeding tools for scientists.

Program areas

The Centre has three program areas:

  1. Maintaining wheat yield and quality in an environment of adverse climate conditions by understanding and improving drought tolerance and water use.
  2. Adapting canola to climate change through understanding genetic variation, flowering control and heterosis.
  3. Molecular diagnostics of pests and pathogens.
