Prescribed burning: Now…. And Then?

Penman T and Christie F (Eds) (2007) Prescribed burning: Now…. And Then? Presentation given at the Ecological Society of Australia Conference, 25 - 30 November 2007, Perth, Australia.

Summary

Prescribed burning, or the deliberate application of fire, is a commonly used management tool worldwide. However, there are relatively few studies that have examined the efficacy of prescribed burning in terms of fuel reduction and ecological objectives. This symposium brought together fire ecologists from around Australia to discuss the regional data relating to the effectiveness of prescribed burning under current conditions. Data were also presented relating to the potential impacts of climate change scenarios on prescribed burning.
