Gamefish Tagging Update

Williams, D., Lowry, M.B., 2002. Gamefish Tagging Update. The Official 2002 Australian Gamefishing Journal. 24-29.

Non Technical Summary

The tagging newsletter provides information regarding the total number of fish tagged, the relative performance of the program over previous years, winners of the various trophies associated with tournaments and feedback to participating anglers about how the program can be improved.

The key to the success of the angler-based data collection approach employed by the gamefish tagging and monitoring program is communication of results back to the user groups. The primary incentive for anglers to continue to support these programs is to ensure that the results of these programs are made widely available and demonstrate that the information is useful in the sustainable management of gamefish species.

The tagging newsletter as well as other initiatives as website summaries, on line logging of tag information and the attendance of Departmental personnel at gamefish tournaments provides the support needed to ensure that this cooperative program continues to the sustainable management of gamefish species.
