The NSW Centre for Horticulture is ideally suited for sub tropical horticultural production with a northerly aspect, high rainfall and deep, fertile, well drained soils.

Average rainfall is 1857mm with a dry spring. Temperatures range from 9.8ºC [49.64ºF] (average July minimum) to 27.2ºC [80.96ºF] (average January maximum) with an elevation of 140m.

The site also contains the Bureau of Meteorology weather station for Alstonville.
