Advisory services - Cowra Agricultural Research & Advisory Station

The station has an extension team of 5 professional staff based at Cowra. Extension staff promote industry and export development by working with industry to improve the sustainability and profitability of the agricultural sector.

District Agronomist

District Agronomist, Jan Edwards, develops and delivers extension and industry development programs to broadacre managers and private industry agronomists in the Cowra and Weddin Shires. State-wide programs such as Profarm, Landscan, Prograze and Healthy Soils are used as tools to support these initiatives. This position also coordinates a number of cropping and pasture demonstrations on Station to promote innovation in this sector.

Livestock Officer (sheep/wool)

Livestock Officer (Sheep/Wool), Ashley White, develops and delivers extension and industry development programs to sheep and goat managers in the Cowra and Weddin Shires.  Focus is on both meat and wool production with Profarm and Prograze programs supporting these initiatives.  This position also plays a pivotal role in extending research findings from the local Meat Science team.

Product Development Officer

Product Development Officer (Lamb), Brent McLeod, has a state wide responsibility to encourage improvements and efficiencies in the sheep meat supply chain.  The position works closely with producers groups and processors to encourage interaction and cooperation at the whole of industry level.

Livestock Officer (pigs)

Livestock officer (Pigs), Jayce Morgan, develops and delivers extension and industry development programs to pig producers throughout the state.  Programs support initiatives in production efficiencies, waste management, piggery housing and animal welfare issues.

Agronomist (Biosolids)

Agronomist (Biosolids), Leonie Martin, is supported by the Sydney Water Biosoil Program to promote the beneficial use of biosolid waste products in the agriculture sector.  The position mainly operates within the Central Tablelands and Central West Slopes region and facilitates the initial contact with landholders, undertakes assessments of suitable lands and compiles documents and maps for Government approvals.
