Centre for Recycled Organics in Agriculture

Egglplant harvest

Eggplant harvest demonstrating the benefits of using recycled organics

The Centre for Recycled Organics in Agriculture (CROA) was established in November 2002 in response to the increasing application of recovered resources to land and a lack of understanding of their benefits to agriculture. These include improved crop productivity or soil fertility, as well as any contaminants and environmental risks associated with them.

CROA occupies 32ha within the NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) Elizabeth Macarthur Agricultural Institute near Camden, 60 km south west of Sydney. It was established as a joint initiative between by NSW DPI, The National Heritage Trust, the Department of Environment and Heritage and the Department Environment and Conservation (now Department of Environment and Climate Change).

CROA provides opportunities to demonstrate and establish, in replicated field trials, the benefits of using recycled organics (RO) over the long term. This is achieved through undertaking independent, scientifically based assessments of the resource value of RO and industrial residues. More about CROA
