Specialist veterinary and extension officers based at EMAI are integrated into state - wide, industry - related programs. Each provides reliable and independent farm management advice to producers in the Sydney basin and the Southern highlands of NSW
Floriculture Development
Delivering projects that assist the further development of the commercial NSW cut flower industry through publications, conferences, seminars and special interest grower groups is a major commitment of the Development Officer (Floriculture). There is also a strong commitment to contributing extension expertise to a number of R&D projects being conducted by NSW DPI, including improved production systems, new native flower crops, market access and post harvest trials.
Horticultural Services
An extension officer based at EMAI services the fruit and vegetable industries in the Sydney basin, Southern Highlands and South Coast. He oversees the Cleanfresh program that monitors the pesticide residue status for a number of horticultural crops grown in NSW with the aim of reducing excessive residue levels by developing and implementing on-farm advisory and training programs. He represents the State on the national strawberry industry advisory committee and the grape phylloxera awareness program for the Sydney basin.
Senior Regional Animal Health Manager (South Coast)
A senior biosecurity manager based at EMAI overseas animal health issues in commercial and non commercial livestock species for the NSW coastal area from Port Macquarie to the Victorian Boarder. Activities encompasses liaison with Rural Land Protection Boards (RLPBs) for disease surveillance for notifiable diseases and diseases of concern for individual RLPBs, emergency preparedness and response for exotic and emerging animal diseases, animal welfare and regulatory programs underpinning animal health legislation.
Poultry Services
A poultry veterinary specialist based at EMAI provides technical expertise to the NSW poultry industry, to facilitate sustainable and competitive poultry industry through the development and management of biosecurity systems, technology transfer and extension activities. Research and surveillance projects are also undertaken to enhance export potential and facilitate consumer confidence.
