Laboratory facilities upgrade, EMAI
The $56 million upgrade of the laboratory facilities at EMAI is a major project being rolled out from 2008 to 2012.
Project summary
The main upgrades at EMAI can be summarised as follows:
- new plant biosecurity facilities capable of handling a large scale emergency plant disease outbreak
- new high level containment facilities to expand EMAI's capacity to handle a large scale emergency animal disease outbreak
- upgrades of existing animal and plant health facilities to meet current regulations and standards
- upgrades of site infrastructure including waste management, power, gas, site security and stormwater management.

60 week mark
After 60 weeks of construction the new QC2 and QC3 laboratories at EMAI are almost ready to commission. Electricians, plumbers, painters, tilers and cleaners are putting the finishing touches on the new $35 million laboratories. » more from the May 2011 update
