Horticultural extension and education services at Gosford

Extension and education officers providing information to industry

Extension and education officers providing information to industry

Three extension horticulturists and two education officers are stationed at Gosford Primary Industries Institute (GPII) providing technical information, industry support and education services to both regional and state-wide fruit, vegetable and greenhouse industries.

Specialist extension services at GPII include coastal citrus, stone fruit and avocado production; greenhouse and hydroponic vegetable and floriculture production, quality assurance and environmental management systems. Extension and education programs are linked with NSW DPI research, development and extension initiatives and industry strategic plans.

Extension officers provide technical information on all aspects of production within a framework of long term economic viability and environmental management. Extension and education officers work with industries to develop practices that meet product quality, safety and environmental guidelines. Information is provided in a range forms including workshops and grower meetings, newsletters, guidelines, fact sheets, posters, the internet and DVD’s.

Nationally accredited education packages, workshops and training modules provide training qualifications for farmers and industry personnel.
