Advisory services

Specialist extension (or advisory) officers based at OAI are integrated into all programs. In addition, there are extension officers for beef cattle and deer and irrigation. Field Veterinary Officers have statewide responsibilities to Ovine Johne’s Disease. A Senior Field Veterinary officer coordinates the activities of the Rural Lands Protection Board veterinarians in the Central West of NSW and maintains the register of ovine brucellosis accredited free flocks.  Two regulatory officers implement and ensure compliance of various Acts covering plant and animal health, quality assurance, pest and disease monitoring.

The Plant Pathology Group conducts research and provides diagnostic and advisory services directly to industry and other researches.  It publishes plant protection guides, advice on pesticide registration and also provides quarantine advice and inspections for NSW Agriculture and Australian Quarantine Inspection Service.

Three biometricians provide statistical support to staff, especially at Orange, Bathurst, Condobolin, Cowra, and Trangie.  This support includes discussion of experimental design, analysis, interpretation and reporting.
