Key research of the Hawkesbury District Office

Richmond (Hawkesbury) is the base of the researchers from the Soils, Recycled Organics and Environmental Health research unit.

They are involved in state-wide research activities as well as research projects of the Centre for Recycled Organics in Agriculture (CROA). The latter research is in the beneficial agricultural reuse of soil amendment products derived from organic or industrial residual material.

They also provide some consultancy services to industry.

Weeds research

Richmond is also the site for research into biological control of Salvinia on the rivers, creeks and dams of the Hawkesbury-Nepean River system. An initial three year trial of biological control will be completed in November 2007.  Further research is investigating the impact of water quality on biological control agents in creeks and dams. This will be used to incorporate biological control as part of an integrated control strategy for salvinia. Weeds research
