Environmental policy

The Wagga Wagga Agricultural Institute (WWAI) is the NSW Department of Primary Industries’ Centre of Excellence for Southern Farming Systems and Viticulture, covering approximately 893 hectares. The WWAI employs approximately two hundred staff, who are engaged in agricultural research, advisory, regulatory, laboratory and educational activities. The Institute is committed to promoting NSW Department of Primary Industries’ vision of Profitable and sustainable primary industries building vibrant communities.

Wagga Wagga Agricultural Institute will actively promote positive environmental outcomes. This will occur through continual improvement and progressive implementation of best management practices in plant breeding, cropping and animal management systems. The Institute will retain its current NCSI certification under ISO 9001:2000, and its NATA accreditation under ISO 17025:2005 for laboratory management. These outcomes will be communicated to our clients, research partners, across NSW Department of Primary Industries, and to the wider community.

  • The Institute is committed to preventing pollution and reducing any adverse effects on the environment as a result of its activities. The Institute will continue to implement plans to reduce energy consumption and waste generation.
  • As a minimum, the Institute will comply with all relevant environmental legislation, codes of practice, government instructions, and management guidelines.
  • The WWAI Environmental Management System will continue to provide a framework for setting and reviewing environmental objectives and targets.
  • This policy will be documented, maintained, and fully communicated to all persons working for, or on behalf of, the Wagga Wagga Agricultural Institute. The policy statement will be publicly displayed throughout the Institute and will also be available on the local area network. It will be readily available to the general public.

This policy is the responsibility of the Institute Manager. All supervisors are required to ensure that their staff members are aware of the policy's terms, and of their own individual environmental responsibilities. Full compliance with the WWAI Environmental Management System is required. Staff compliance will be monitored through the annual review and informal audit processes.
