Background
Geoff Allan has over 20 years experience in aquaculture and fish biology with over 20 years experience in fish and aquaculture research. He has substantial experience in leading aquaculture research programs.
Geoff is currently the NSW DPI Research Leader in Aquaculture and the Centre Director, Port Stephens Fisheries Centre. He also has other professional appointments including Program Consultant, ACIAR; Chair, Research and Adoption Committee, Seafood CRC; Project Leader, AQUAFIN CRC; Trustee, Aquaculture without Frontiers; and, Chairman of NSW Fisheries Animal Care and Ethics Committee.

Current projects
- Supervisor and manager of aquaculture research conducted by NSW DPI at the Port Stephens Fisheries Centre, the Grafton Aquaculture Centre and the Inland Saline Aquaculture Research Centre near Wakool. The Aquaculture Research branch includes eight scientists and a total of 28 staff. The annual budget from both consolidated revenue and competitive external grants exceeds $2.5 million/year.
- Program Consultant (fisheries, mainly aquaculture) to Australia Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).
- Principal investigator of Aquafin CRC/FRDC projects on snapper aquaculture and feed technology for temperate finfish species.
