Grant Chambers
Professional Officer (Citrus pathogen indexing)
Plant Pathology

Research interests

Detection of citrus viruses and viroids by biological indexing and laboratory techniques.

Background

Since 1997, Grant has held a number of positions while working at Elizabeth Macarthur Agricultural Institute. He is currently a Professional Officer involved with citrus pathogen indexing and this has been in this role for seven years.

Grant’s primary role is testing for the presence of various pathogens for the Auscitrus Budwood and Seed Scheme by using biological indexing and laboratory-based techniques.

In addition to diagnostic work, the position also involves research and development. It is important that we are using the latest techniques available, to ensure reliability and efficiency of disease testing. Existing laboratory techniques may be improved, or techniques recently published in the literature may be adapted and optimised to local conditions.
