Background
Dr Jianhua Mo is a senior Research Entomologist in field-vegetables and citrus. Since joining the Department in 2000, he has led and completed a series of national research projects on the IPM of citrus and vegetable pests including spined citrus bug (Birporulus bibax), light brown apple moth (Epipyas postvittana) and fuller’s rose weevil (Asynonychus cervinus) in citrus, and onion thrips (Thrips tabaci) in onions. Currently he is working on the management of citrus gall wasp (Bruchopagus fellis). Research areas in these projects include pest population dynamics, temperature-dependant development, temporal and spatial distributions, mating disruption, sampling, dispersal, and insecticide efficacy. Aside from entomology, Dr Mo has contributed to the development of a climate change risk assessment tool with build-in GIS capability and a web-based climate companion for cereal farmers (Cropmate).
Prior to joining NSW DPI, Dr Mo worked on diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella) dispersal and sampling techniques in Brassica crops; modelling of eucalypt tree dieback and spatial mapping; and, analysis of the distribution of a biological control agent of rubber vine, biology/ecology of red cedar tip moth (Hypsipyla robusta), and biological control of the masson pine caterpillar (Dendrolimus punctatus) with egg parasitic wasps.
