Daring to Dream (DTD) is a tribute to the many women from rural, regional and remote backgrounds who have dared to take the plunge, set goals and overcome challenges to make their dreams happen. The stories show the creativity and resilience of women as they share their stories and provide inspiration for others.

This second installment of Daring to Dream builds on the first edition published in 2006. Rural women from many walks of life once again agreed to share their experiences with readers as a way of encouraging others to perhaps follow their own dreams. Many reveal intimitate personal insights along with more practical ideas of how to covercome the often unpredictable obstacles that can easily steer us off course.

Stories from inspirational rural women

The latest women to be profiled in Daring to Dream:

Lynne Strong
Lynne Strong, Jamberoo

Lynne, a proud sixth-generation farmer, is co-owner/operator of multi-award-winning Clover Hill Dairies at Jamberoo on the South Coast. She initiated Dairy Youth Australia Inc. and the innovative ‘Art4Agriculture’ programs including Picasso Cows and the Archibull Prize, which use art and multimedia to engage thousands of students in learning about the valuable role farmers play in Australia’s future.

Alison McIntosh
Alison McIntosh, Laggan

Alison was the 2010 NSW RIRDC Rural Women’s Award Runner Up and is the youngest female to be appointed as a Councillor to the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW. She is passionate about the beef industry and is closely involved in her family’s cattle seedstock operation. In 2010 she established her own Angus stud enterprise and also runs a consultancy business providing specialist services to beef cattle producers, as well as training in other areas.

Rachael Flynn
Rachael Flynn, Mudgee

Rachael left a career in teaching to pursue creative interests and develop a rurally based business. Red Tractor Designs is known for images which capture rural ‘stories’ which have been reproduced onto greeting cards and other products. She lives on a wool and sheep property near Mudgee with her husband Michael and their two small boys, James and Paddy.

More About the Daring to Dream initiative

A project of Industry & Investment NSW Rural Women’s Network, DTD celebrates and recognises rural women who are playing key roles as achievers and agents of change within their communities in one or more of the following areas; agriculture, industry, business, community, sport, the arts and natural resources, by sharing their stories and providing a mechanism for networking and informal mentoring.

DTD features a diversity of women from across NSW and includes high profile women as well as those unsung heroines doing amazing things but who have had little recognition.
