Be Weedwise at the Australian National Field Days

26 Oct 2017

Landholders and farmers attending this year’s Australian National Field Days will have the opportunity to attend one of three daily presentations about putting technology to good use against the war on weeds.

The Department of Primary Industries (DPI) in partnership with Local Land Services will hold Weedwise App demonstrations at 10.00 am, 12.00 pm and 2.00 pm daily.

DPI Manager Invasive Species Programs Scott Charlton said weeds impact significantly on agricultural production and the environment.

“DPI’s WeedWise App is an invaluable tool for weed management and identification as it presents information for over 300 noxious and environmental weeds in NSW,” Mr Charlton said.

“The App gives users a physical description of the weed, an image gallery and details about the weed’s impacts, how it spreads, its preferred habitat and the herbicides registered for its control.

“As well as finding out information, landholder and farmers can use the App to report high priority weeds to their local council.”

DPI and Local Land Services will also be available across the three days to provide advice on the best methods of controlling problem weeds.

“I would encourage any landholders and farmers with specific inquiries to come along and speak to one of our technical experts,” Mr Charlton said.

The NSW Weedwise App can be accessed as a webpage or via download onto any ‘smart device’ through the Apple App Store or Google Play.

The Weedwise stand will be located in the Trevor Elliot Pavillion of the Australian National Field Days.
