2015 GG Award Bruce Tyrrell, Tom Ward President WIA and Minsiter Blair

Nominations are now open to acknowledge an individual’s outstanding contribution to the NSW wine industry for the prestigious Graham Gregory Award.

NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Group Director Plant Systems Dr Alison Bowman said the Graham Gregory Award recognises people who are advancing the NSW wine industry.

“The award celebrates the recognition by peers for outstanding contributions to the NSW wine industry made by a winegrape grower, wine maker, marketer, researcher, educator or industry advocate,” Dr Bowman said.

“Individuals involved in any field in the NSW wine industry are encouraged to nominate for this prestigious award or, alternatively, nominate a colleague who deserves the title.”

Named after NSW wine industry pioneer and former NSW Agriculture Deputy Director General Graham Gregory, the award celebrates the wine industry and the people who contribute to its success.

Last year’s winner Bruce Tyrrell represented a third Graham Gregory win for Tyrrell’s, joining an illustrious list of winners of the trophy, including his father Murray Tyrrell in 1993, and Murray Flannigan, Tyrrell’s long serving Cellar Door Private Bin host in 2007.

Mr Tyrrell said he is honoured to receive the award and join some of the great figures of the NSW wine industry.

“I have done what I believe needed to be done at the times when the industry was under threat. I now look to the younger generation to carry that on,” said Mr Tyrrell.

This is a retrospective award recognising outstanding contribution from the previous year. The award will be presented at the annual NSW Wine Awards, to be held in Sydney on 27 October 2017.

Nominations for the 2016 Graham Gregory Award close on Monday 2 October 2017.

Entry forms and more information about the award are available on the DPI website http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/agriculture/horticulture/grapes/gga/graham-gregory-award and can be submitted to kylie.maclean@dpi.nsw.gov.au
