Blueberry bee pollination expo

North coast blueberry producers are invited to a free pollination expo to connect with local beekeepers and to learn about successful pollination.

The expo is hosted by NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) in partnership with OzGroup at Woolgoolga on 28 February.

NSW DPI Blueberry Development Officer, Melinda Simpson said bees play an essential role in pollinating a vast number of food crops, including blueberries.

“The expo provides blueberry growers with a great opportunity to meet local beekeepers who can assist with pollination,” Ms Simpson said.

“Presentations will be made by DPI Biosecurity Officers informing growers on what to look for in a healthy hive and how to identify unhealthy hives.

“Attendees will also hear from the University of New England about tunnels type and the number of visits required to producing a good berry, while Bee Innovate will discuss their new technology that provides bee identification, tracking and reporting in real time to help increase bee pollination productivity and pest management specialists, Bugs for Bugs will discuss the issue of chemicals and bee disruption.”

The Expo will be held at the Woolgoolga Bowls Club on Thursday, 28 February 2019 from 4.30 pm until 7.30 pm.
