Local canola growers have been invited to hear the latest research results and learn how to make the most from their cropping investment at free events in Wagga Wagga on Wednesday September 11 and Mulwala on Thursday September 12.

NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) research and development agronomist, Rohan Brill, said the Optimised Canola Profitability Roadshow draws on five years of ground-breaking research to best manage crops.

“In the last five years we have delved into what drives canola production in southern NSW and growing regions across the country,” Mr Brill said.

“With a focus on answering questions which will really make a dollar difference, we will discuss optimum flowering times, matching sowing dates and variety to flower on time and critical growth periods for canola.

“We want to help growers optimise harvest timing through improved maturity assessment to get a full return on their investment and discuss the agronomic tactics which will improve canola production.

“Intensive phenology and physiology research can now deliver important information for the industry, agronomists and growers, to ensure profitability in canola production.”

The Grains Research and Development Corporation Optimised Canola Profitability Roadshow will be presented by NSW DPI, Charles Sturt University and CSIRO canola researchers.

The events will be held at the Wine and Food Industry Training Centre, Building 412, Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga and Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort, from 9.30am until 3pm.
