Newest podcast: running a thriving business in agriculture

16 Dec 2021

A new season of The Business of Farming podcast has been released to help young farmers thrive in agriculture, capturing the key ingredients to running a successful farm business.

The award-winning podcast, developed by the NSW Department of Primary Industries’ (DPI) Young Farmer Business Program (YFBP), was recorded at the second Young Farmer Business Program Conference held in Dubbo in May this year.

YFBP Team Leader Alex Hicks, said the podcast features internationally recognised agricultural business experts as well as young farmers who didn't inherit a farm but made the successful journey to land ownership anyway.

“The conference brought experts from NSW and beyond to Dubbo to share their unique industry knowledge, experience and advice with over 300 young farmer delegates, and we turned it into a podcast for those who couldn’t attend or who wanted to relive the best sessions,” she said.

The Podcast features cofounder and former CEO of Farm Owners Academy, Andrew Roberts; cofounder of Tas Ag Co.and former General Manager of ag tech accelerator, SproutX, Sam Trethewey; and, succession planning facilitator and communications consultant Lyn Sykes.

“Andrew Roberts simplifies the complexity of running a farm business like no one else, while Sam Trethewey’s application of some of the key principles of the start-up business model to beef production is truly innovative,” Ms Hicks said.

“While Lyn Sykes has distilled years of experience into some really actionable advice. Ultimately, we want to make some of the more difficult aspects of running a farm business easy to understand.

Our podcasts have been extremely popular. We know young farmers can find time to tune in while they’re on the road or driving a tractor."
