Our climate

Armidale is located on the New England Plateau in northern NSW midway between Sydney and Brisbane (approx. 500 km to the south and north respectively), at an altitude of 970-1070 metres above sea level (from the floor of the valley to the crests of the hills), with a land area of 863,029 ha (8,630 km2) and population density of 0.04 persons per hectare. Armidale has a cool temperate climate with the majority of rain falling in the summer months. Winters are dry, cold and frosty with the occasional snowfall. Summer days are warm but nights are usually cool. Average annual rainfall is 763 millimetres.
