Aaron Preston joined the Southern Cropping Systems Unit in 2016 and will soon complete his PhD on developing a genetic method for herbicide resistance detection in annual ryegrass.
Prior to this Aaron completed his BSc at Charles Sturt University majoring in Analytical Chemistry, after which he continued his studies and worked intermittently over three and a half years as a Technical Officer with the Graham Centre investigating novel compounds from plant extracts and evaluating their potential to become new herbicides.
In his new role, Aaron is developing and updating integrated weed management information, and identifying and prioritising emerging weeds research. His current research projects include: seed dormancy and biology of wild oats, turnip and African turnip weed, and evaluating strategic weed control with cover crops and mulches.
