Dr Singh’s research focusses on carbon (C) and nutrient cycling and storage in agro-ecosystems. Currently, he leads a national GRDC-funded project (DAN00169) with partners from NSW, WA and Qld, to assess physical, chemical and biological functions of soil organic matter (SOM) in farming systems. In his research, Dr Singh employed stable C and/or nitrogen (N) isotopes to provide insights into: (i) C and N interactions in plant-soil systems; (ii) tree and soil respiration and their responses to management and climate change; and (iv) in-situ nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions and their drivers during land use change. His research has also advanced our understanding of stability of biochar (a C-rich agricultural amendment) and its interaction with soil C and N cycling in contrasting agro-ecosystems and organic waste industries. He disseminated research outcomes, via invited lectures in public sector and industry meetings, field days, and (inter)national conferences, to industry stakeholders, and farmers’ groups, underpinning improved management strategies for sustainable agriculture.

Recent publications

Dr Singh has published over 80 scientific papers and book chapters and over 90 conference presentations. His publications have been cited over 4000 times, with an H score (Google Scholar) of 30. He authored several high impact journal publications (e.g. Nature Climate Change, Nature Scientific Reports, Environment Science & Technology, Plant, Cell & Environment, Soil Biology & Biochemistry).
