In her role as Special Project and Committee Support, Colleen supports the Secretary’s Animal Care & Ethics Committee, a Committee established under the Animal Research Act 1985 to provide supervision and ethical oversight of research and education projects involving the use of animals, to independent researchers and external organisations in New South Wales.

Colleen joined the Department in 1994, and has worked with the Animal Welfare Branch and the Chief Scientist’s Branch. Through interactions within DPI and with public, Colleen remains a strong advocate for the promotion of animal welfare and ensures that all Secretary’s ACEC stakeholders remain cognisant of animal care and welfare; and are educated in their responsibilities under:

  • The Animal Research Act 1985 and Animal Research Regulation 2010
  • The Australian Code for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes
  • The Animal Research Review Panel (ARRP) policies and guidelines.

Current projects

  • Supporting the Secretary’s Animal Care & Ethics Committee and users of this Committee.
  • Increasing the online presence of the Secretary’s ACEC.
  • Coordinating consistent communication and review processes to facilitate ethical review of animal research and education projects.
