Fiona Mead is a Rural Financial Counsellor, based at Tocal Agricultural College in NSW. She is passionate about rural communities and agriculture and is dedicated to securing the farming future of Australia. She is also a partner in a Dorper Stud sheep enterprise.
Fiona’s career has been devoted to primary industries. Having worked for a number of agricultural companies she has formed strong networks in farming sectors throughout Northern NSW and Queensland.
In her role as Rural Financial Counsellor, Fiona has become acutely aware of the limited options and barriers which hinder young farmers’ ability to enter the agricultural sector.
Exacerbated by an ageing demographic of farmers who wish to remain on their farms but not necessarily be involved in the full-time management of agricultural enterprises, Fiona is working to connect the two generations by looking beyond the traditional means of acquiring rural land for agribusiness.
This will strengthen rural communities by enabling a new generation to access opportunities across primary industries and provide an ongoing connection for the older generation of farmers as they transition out of hands-on agriculture.
