Gosford Primary Industries Institute (GPII) is based at Narara, on a 78ha site on the Central Coast of NSW. The Institute contains an established infrastructure of laboratories, cool rooms, greenhouses, nursery structures, offices and a visitor/conference centre.
The Gosford Primary Industries Institute will be relocated from the Narara site to the nearby 47ha Somersby Field Station site in 2008 and 2009. Somersby presently has existing research infrastructure and fruit, vegetable, native ornamentals, green tea and other plantings. Twenty regionally based NSW DPI Fisheries staff will also be co-located at Somersby. New offices, laboratories, greenhouse research facilities and a Conference room will be constructed.
In July 2007, GPII had 70 staff. This includes 12 Research Officers and four Advisory and Education Officers. Most of these officers have a Doctorate or Masters Degree and the average age is under 45 years.
Total external income and revenue for GPII in 2006-07 was $3.1 m - more than double the amount achieved in 2000-2001. This represents over 40% of the total GPII budget.
