Background

Alex Schultz is a Research Development Officer with the NSW Department of Primary Industries based at Deniliquin. He joined the Water and Irrigation Unit in 2016. Having worked in agronomy and farm management before his role in research and development, Alex has extensive experience in irrigated broadacre farming. His special interests lie in water productivity, scheduling and irrigated system design.

His research interests also extend to technologies and sensing equipment such as remote sensing, which has been previously used for showing variability in crops and is now showing great potential to predict yields in tree crops.

Current projects

  • Multi-scale monitoring tools for managing Australian tree crops: Phase 2, key partners in this are the University of New England, Central Queensland University.
  • Smarter irrigation for profit 2, key learning sites southern – making the most of water. Key partners are Central West Farming Systems, Irrigation Research and Extension Committee, Southern Growers Inc and Irrigated cropping council.
