Background

Dave’s Doctorial work focused on deciphering the genomic organisation of the marsupial globin gene cluster. After his PhD he accepted a postdoctoral position at Melbourne University (Department of Botany) studying the genetics of self-incompatibility systems in flowering plants. He then moved to the USA and completed postdocs at Kansas State University (ecological genomes) and the University of Rochester (parasitoid genomics), before taking up a position as a lecturer in Bioinformatics and Genomics at Massey University (NZ). In 2017 he left academia to start his own company (NgBS Ltd), which provided computational analyses services to Universities and Companies located within the Asian Pacific region. Dave Joined DPI at the beginning of 2018 as a bioinformatician and data scientist within the Chief Scientists branch. He has a broad range of skills in genomics, computational biology, web 2.0, and machine learning. He is particularly excited about the potential of big data to increase the productivity of Australia's agricultural sector.
