Ahead of the NSW state election on 25 March 2023, the NSW Government caretaker period has commenced. Limited updates will be made to this website during this period.
Dr Condon developed an interest in agriculture and soil whilst growing up on a wheat/sheep property in southern NSW. While studying a BAgricSc (Hons) degree at LaTrobe University, Dr Condon worked on research projects conducted by NSW and Victorian Departments of Agriculture at Wagga and Rutherglen, respectively. This exposure to soils-based agricultural research led him to honours research into the amelioration of subsoil acidity and a PhD investigating the effect of nitrogen transformations on the formation of acidic subsurface layers in grazed pastures.
Since 1996, Dr Condon has taught soil science and soil management subjects at Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga and supervising many honours and postgraduate student projects relating to soil science and agricultural production. Dr Condon’s research expertise includes acid soil management, nutrient cycling and fertiliser efficiency. His current research portfolio includes science lead in several National Landcare Program projects relating to acid soil management led by Holbrook Landcare Network and FarmLink, in collaboration with Central West Farming Systems and the Grasslands Society of NSW. He has projects with the CRC for High Performing Soils related to improving soil conditions with plants and soil amendments. His research extends to salinity management in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam and he currently leads an ACIAR funded project with Can Tho University.
Dr Condon enjoys helping producers understand their soil and working with them to solve soil related problems on farm to ensure the condition of the land improves.
